Former Ukrainian tennis star Alexandr Dolgopolov compared Andrey Rublev to Russian president Vladimir Putin, calling him a straight liar and hypocrite.

After winning his Belgrade round-of-16 match on Thursday, Rublev ripped Wimbledon for their "discrimination" of Russian players.

"The reasons they (Wimbledon) gave us had no sense, they were illogical," Rublev said.

"What is happening now is complete discrimination against us."

Also, Rublev didn't stop there as he explained that if Wimbledon really wanted to do a good thing, they could have redirected their prize fund to those in need.

"Banning Russian or Belarusian players….will not change anything.

"To give all the prize money to humanitarian help, to the families who are suffering, to the kids who are suffering, I think that would do something, at least a bit.

"Tennis will, in that case, be the first and only sport who donates that amount of money and it will be Wimbledon so they will take all the glory."

Dolgopolov: Rublev is a liar

In Belgrade, Rublev also claimed he is not into politics and doesn't really follow the news.

"This statement of Rublev is a perfect example, why the LTA decision is the right decision. Exactly what his president and their propaganda does every day, LIE! 'I don't know anything, I'm not reading the news, I'm not following, I have no education,'" Dolgopolov said in a message shared on his Twitter.

"So please, better just say nothing than try to lie, like you government does, just to keep your regular life running. Because here your country is massively raping kid and women, executing tied people in the back of their head and acting like barbarians. Unfortunately, this speech is fully of hipocrisy and lies, and the ATP and WTA should really not want to cover this kind of behavior. If they (Russians and Belarusians) want to speak, speak the truth and precisely, not with lies."
