Ons Jabeur reached the second round of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Tuesday. The Tunisian, seeded seventh in the German city, came from a set down to beat Marketa Vondrousova, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.

Jabeur lost her serve just once – in the opening set. Across the latter two sets, she faced two break points, both of which she saved. On the other hand, the Czech saved a couple of break points in the first set but went on to drop her serve thrice across the latter two sets.

After her win, Jabeur said, “I thought I was going for the shots, but when you play someone who is picking up all the balls, they kind of get in your head. Second set was much better, I was trying to be more aggressive and taking more of my chances. I have to say, playing a lot of matches lately gave me a lot of confidence, going from Charleston to here.”

In the second round, Jabeur will play Daria Kasatkina. The Russian defeated Coco Gauff in their first-round clash, 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 19 minutes.

Porsche Tennis Grand Prix: Bianca Andreescu starts off with a win

Former US Open champion, Bianca Andreescu’s comeback to the circuit began on a triumphant note as she reached the second round. The Canadian outlasted German wildcard, Jule Niemeier 7-6(5), 6-3 in an hour and 44 minutes. Next up for Andreescu is third seed and defending finalist, Aryna Sabalenka, who received a first-round bye.

Elena Rybakina won her first-round match against Nastasja Mariana Schunk. The Kazakh needed two hours and two minutes to claim a 7-6(3), 7-5 against the German qualifier. Rybakina will play second seed Paula Badosa for a place in the quarter-finals.

Another German qualifier, Eva Lys, meanwhile, reached the second round with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 win over Viktorija Golubic. This was Lys’ first win on the WTA main tour. Seeking to back her win, Lys will next play top seed, Iga Swiatek.

Tamara Korpatsch beat Camila Giorgi 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-1 in three hours and 10 minutes in their first-round match. The German will play either Australian qualifier, Storm Sanders or eighth seed, Emma Raducanu next.
