Spanish tennis superstar Rafael Nadal congratulated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on a great Monte Carlo run and also heaped praise on Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Davidovich Fokina, 22, made his maiden Masters final in Monte Carlo, before losing in straight sets to Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas, who won his maiden Masters title in Monte Carlo last week, defeated Davidovich Fokina to win back-to-back Monte Carlo titles.
"Congratulations Alejandro Davidovich Fokina for the final in Monte Carlo. Great week!" Nadal said in an Instagram post.
"Congrats to Stefanos for his 2nd Monte Carlo win. Great achievement."
Nadal didn't play but Davidovich Fokina represented Spain well
Davidovich Fokina was playing great throughout the entire tournaments as his run to the final included wins over Novak Djokovic, David Goffin, Taylor Fritz and Grigor Dimitrov.
“[It] was [an] amazing experience,” Davidovich Fokina said after the final. “I enjoyed every day, winning big [matches]. Beating Djoko and players that are at the height of their careers. It was a tough week. A lot of emotions.
“This week with my team was amazing. [It] was a dream come true to play here in Monte Carlo [with] full crowds. To hear the people support was amazing. I was at the bench thinking, ‘Wow, what a moment’.”
Beating Djokovic in the second round gave Davidovich Fokina a ton of confidence for the rest of the tournament.
“Beating these guys [gives you] much confidence,” Davidovich Fokina said. “After this week I don't know if I will win matches. I will be focused like this week on every point, every game. I will enjoy every moment now. Doesn't matter if I lose or if I win. I'm so happy with myself, what I am doing and just to keep in that line.”
Meanwhile, Nadal continues to recover from a stress fracture in one of his ribs.
Nadal could potentially return to action at the beginning of May in Madrid.
